What is a library media specialist???
Teacher, Collaborator, resource locator, technology literate, staff developer, innovator, manager, flexible, learner

A library media specialist is a teacher. They work with students in the
media center, computer lab and the classroom. They help teach students how
to be information literate.

A library media specialist is a collaborator. They work with teachers to
plan, instruct, and evaluate student learning.

A library media specialist is a resource locator. They help you find the
answers to questions and find resources (all kinds) to support instruction
in the classroom. They may not always be able to succeed, but they will
always try their best.

A library media specialist loves literature. They enjoy sharing great
books with students and teachers. They help entice students to have a
lifetime love of reading. They have ideas on incorporating great books into
a variety of curriculum topics. Share with them the great books you find
too.

A library media specialist is technology literate. They work with
students to use technology in the library media center, the computer lab,
and the classroom.

A library media specialist is a staff developer. They help teachers learn
new technologies and how to use them with students.

A library media specialist is an innovator. They are quick to come up
with ideas and are open to new ideas from others, too.

A library media specialist is a manager. With assistance from many
people, the library media specialist makes sure the library media center
runs effectively and efficiently.

A library media specialist lends a helping hand. They are always willing
to help out when needed even if it isn’t their “job”. Ask for their help
when needed. It makes them happy to be of service.

A library media specialist is flexible. They are very willing to make
changes when changes need to be made. Although they are planners, they are
able to see that sometimes adjustments in plans are necessary.

A library media specialist loves to learn. They love to hear about the
great books people are reading and new ideas and strategies for working with
students. Share with them new things you learn, too.

But most of all, a library media specialist does not work alone. For a
school to have a successful library media program, it takes everyone (the
media specialist, teachers, administration, and the media staff) working
together for the benefit of the students.
